App development

iPhone and Android apps for small businesses.

We design, build and launch mobile apps for small businesses across the US. In 2026 we took three of our own apps from the first line of code to the App Store and Google Play, so we know the whole path, including the parts that go wrong.

What we handle

The app, and everything around it

An app is more than screens. These are the parts we have built and shipped ourselves.

Accounts and sign-in

Sign-in and accounts, with each person's data kept separate from everyone else's.

Payments and subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions that work on both stores, with a free plan that makes sense on its own.

Reminders and notifications

Reminders scheduled on the phone itself, with action buttons inside the notification.

Camera and scanning

Reading text from documents, labels and receipts on the phone, so photos don't have to leave it.

Backend and database

A cloud database, server functions and admin tools when an app needs a server, and none when it doesn't.

Store release

Store listings, screenshots, privacy and data-safety answers, replies to reviewers and later updates, for both stores.

iPhone and Android

One codebase, or native when the job needs it

Most apps don't need two separate builds. RecipeGo and HeedHome each use one React Native codebase for both phones, so they look and behave the same and ship together.

HearAlong is different. It processes live sound with very little delay, so it is a native Android app with a C++ audio engine. We choose the approach per project, and we tell you why.

How a project works

From idea to the stores in five steps

These are our own launch times, not promises. A client app with accounts, payments and a backend takes longer, and we say so up front.

  1. Talk it throughWhat the app should do, who will use it and what it needs to connect to.
  2. Design before codeA clickable design you can tap through on your phone, so changes are cheap.
  3. Build and testWe build it and try it on real phones, not only on a computer.
  4. Submit and pass reviewWe prepare the listings and answer the reviewers at Apple and Google.
  5. Launch and improveWe release when you're ready, then fix, update and add features.
Questions

What people ask before building an app

Do I need both an iPhone and an Android app?

Usually yes, if your customers use both. We can build them from one codebase so you aren't paying twice. If only one platform matters to you, we can start there.

How long does an app take?

It depends on what the app does. Our own HeedHome went from first code to both stores in 24 days, but it has no server and a focused feature list. An app with accounts, payments and a backend takes longer. Tell us what you have in mind and we will give you an honest estimate.

What does an app cost?

The main drivers are the number of screens, whether people need accounts or payments, and whether the app needs a server. We don't publish app prices because no two projects match, but we're glad to talk through a budget.

Will Apple and Google approve my app?

We handle the submission and the replies to reviewers, but nobody controls the outcome. Review can ask for more information or reject a build over small things. Our HeedHome iPhone build was rejected once over the wording of a permission button, and we fixed it and resubmitted. Plan for at least one review round when you set a launch date.

Do you build web apps and internal tools too?

Yes. Custom web software is part of what we do. eagleReminders, our patient reminder system for dental offices, is one example.

Do you work with clients outside Philadelphia?

Yes. We're based in Philadelphia and work remotely with clients across the US.

Need a website or an app built?

Tell us what you're trying to do. We'll reply as soon as possible with honest next steps and no pressure.
